CONTEMPORARY ART  

Starting from Paul Virilio’s critique of technological acceleration, this project examines how speed and contemporary technical systems transform the symbolic structures that sustain collective identity. In a society increasingly mediated by flows of information, social experience is reorganized through processes of fragmentation, displacement, and the reconfiguration of the different bodies of the political: animal, social, and territorial. Within this framework, the project focuses on the territorial body, addressing the notion of homeland as one of the fundamental symbolic forms through which belonging is constructed. The series takes as its point of departure the national flags of Mexico, the United States, and Canada, redesigned by the artificial intelligence system Vexiology, AI, which compiled cultural, historical, and symbolic information from each country in order to generate a contemporary reinterpretation of their national emblems. The new designs preserve the official proportions of the original flags, situating themselves in an ambiguous space between institutional continuity and algorithmic reinterpretation. As a sonic counterpart, the project incorporates an anthem generated through artificial intelligence from the combination of fragments of the national anthems of the three countries, evoking the cultural narratives associated with the North American Free Trade Agreement. Taken together, the work proposes a reflection on the future of national symbols in a context where algorithmic systems are beginning to actively intervene in the production of cultural and political imaginaries.
